ABOUT

A life project summarized in 3 hashtags: #keepstudying #learnmore #teachbetter

Gustavo started teaching Math in 1991, at the age of 16. However, if Math didn't exist, he would certainly choose to teach something else. He had the privilege to tell a little bit about his story at the 2012 edition of TEDxUnisinos. His presentation got a standing ovation and has become one of the most viewed talks from TEDx events organized in Brazil, with more than 400,000 views on YouTube (watch video). Besides his activity as a professional speaker and a corporate trainer, the community he founded in 2015, Estude Matemática, has amassed an audience of 700K+ Math enthusiasts distributed across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Gustavo has a B.S. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and a M.Sc. in Design from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Unisinos).

When he is not teaching, recording in his video studio or learning something new, Gustavo enjoys cooking, traveling and, especially, scuba diving. He also loves spending quality time with his wife Andréa and their daughter Marina, born in 2019.

A sample of available talks:

Emotional Inclusion: a Manifesto
In this talk, Gustavo conducts the audience through a delightful journey using his personal dream as a map: a world where education is filled with enthusiasm and joy and where teachers and students work together to combat indifference and boredom. The mandatory ingredient to make this dream come true? Emotional inclusion.
Knowledge, Creativity and Innovation
In a highly provocative talk which offers a number of opportunities for reflection, Gustavo invites participants to get to know themselves a little better from the standpoint of their immersion in a world driven by technological innovations. Taking as a starting point an evaluation of the primary emotional and behavioral characteristics from today's youth, Gustavo leads the audience through a journey into the world of motivation, empathy and inspiration.
The New Teacher: Design, Meaning and Relationships
In this talk, Gustavo, supported by scientific studies from the Design, Education, Communication and Psychology fields, presents the essential characteristics for the new millenium teacher. Starting from the concept of “teachers as mentors”, Gustavo offers instruments so that teachers can benefit from the convergence among different areas of scientific interest and give new meanings to the relationships they establish with their students.
